The Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, the main sponsor of the McPHERSON UNIVERSITY (McU), has since its establishment in Nigeria in 1955, taken giant strides in education in its quest to develop and equip men and women for leadership and service. Having successfully run and impacted good education at Nursery, Primary and Secondary School levels in many towns and cities of Nigeria, the Church embraced a bigger vision of expanding in scope by complementing government efforts in producing highly skilled human resources, through the establishment of a University that is geared towards building people who are imbibed with sound and balanced academic and moral education and godly virtues.

The Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, sometimes referred to as Foursquare Gospel Church, Yaba, is an evangelical Pentecostal Christian denomination founded in November 4, 1954 by Rev. H.J. Curtis & Mrs. Faye Curtis and their two sons. The organization is one of the largest churches in Nigeria, and claims 2064 branches in Nigeria. The church is affiliated with the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, headquartered in Los Angeles, California, United States.
The founding fathers of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria were Rev. Odunaike, Samuel Olusegun, Boyejo, James Abayomi and Rev. Friday Chinyere Osuwa.
The church’s national headquarters are located at 62/66 Akinwunmi street, Yaba, Lagos. The church is headed by the General Overseer and Senior Pastor who is Rev. Samuel Aboyeji.
