B.A RELIGION AND PEACE STUDIES
Preamble
The curriculum is to be adopted for the B.A Religion and Peace Studies programme of McPherson University. The curriculum took cognizance of courses already included in the programme for the award of B.Th certificate by LIFE Theological Seminary, Ikorodu. In drawing the curriculum, the admission requirements for the different categories of admission was also considered. These would be highlighted in the subsequent sessions of this report.
Admission Requirements
a. 4 Years Degree Programme
To qualify for entry into the 4-year programme for the award of Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Degree in Religion and Peace Studies, a candidate must fulfil the following:
i) Possess Five O’Level credit pass in WASSCE/NECO/GCE at not more than two sittings including English Language, CRK/IRK/Government and any other two Arts/Social Science subjects.
ii) Sit and earn an acceptable score in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME); and as well pass the University post-UTME screening test.
b. 3 Years Degree Programme
To qualify for entry into the 3-year programme for the award of a B.A. Degree in Religion and Peace Studies, a candidate must fulfil the following:
iii. Two A’Level passes in relevant subjects or minimum of five points in Joint University Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB) including Christian Religious Studies/Islamic Religious Knowledge plus (i) above.
iv. OND with lower credit in the Arts/Humanities; or NCE with a merit pass in the Arts/Humanities; or its equivalents may be considered for direct entry plus (i) above.
v. A Three-Year Diploma in Theology or Bachelor in Theology recognized by the University plus (i) above.
vi. A minimum of 2 GCE (A’L) passes, one of which must be any one of the specified in (i) above or Diploma in Religious Studies of any recognized College of Theology, Seminary or Diploma in Social and Management Sciences at Merit level.
c. 2 Years Degree Programme (Conversion Programme)
To qualify for entry into the 2-session programme (conversion) for the award of a B.A. Degree in Religion and Peace Studies, a candidate must fulfil the following:
ii. A B.Th degree in Theology from seminary or theological institution recognized by the University plus (i)
iii. Bachelor of Arts degree in Arts/humanities or some courses in social sciences with at least Third Class grade.
d. WAIVER: In case of any student who show serious interest in offering Religion and Peace Studies but who does not have credit in Christian Religious Knowledge/Islamic Religious Knowledge at O’ level or who does not sit for it, such a student should be admitted to study Religion and Peace Studies.
Breakdown of tuition and other relevant Fees (required at the commencement of the programme) is as follow:
a. Tuition- N70,000 (Paid annually by all Students)
b. Acceptance Fee- N20,000 (Paid once at commencement of admission)
c. Administrative Fee- N10,000 (Paid annually by all Students)
d. Admission Form- N10,000 (Paid once at commencement of admission)
e. Examination Administration Fee- N10,000
f. Identity Card- N5,000 (Paid annually by all Students)
g. Journals (Annual Publications) – N5,000 (Paid annually by all Students)
h. JAMB Processing Fee- This is usually determined by JAMB
i. Any other fee that may be relevant for the programme
