About the Department

Mr. ‘Tony Ogunbiyi is the University Public Relations Officer and Head, Information and Public Relations Unit of the University. He is a veteran Media/Public Relations specialist with career spanning well over two decades.

He has garnered experiences from the public and private institutions of higher learning before joining the McPHERSON UNIVERSITY team. Ogunbiyi is a Principal Assistant Registrar overseeing the Stakeholders' Engagement, Reputation Management, Community Relations, Media Relations, Brand Communications and Management among others.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Language Arts from the premier University, the University of Ibadan and a Master of Public Administration from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife (Formerly University of Ife).

He is a member of Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA), Federation of Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) among others.

THE INFORMATION & PUBLIC RELATIONS UNIT, OFFICE OF THE VICE-CHANCELLOR

The Information & Public Relations Unit is responsible for managing, planning and implementation of a strategic communication and public relations programmes of the University. The Unit engages the external and internal stakeholders from time to time and disseminates news about the University events, research achievements among others to the media, immediate community and other stakeholders University. The Info & PR Unit is under the direct supervision of the Vice-Chancellor and is directly involved in initiating and implementing public relations strategies for the University with a viewing to enable it maintain cordial relations with its teeming publics.

The compilation, editing and publishing information and other resources aimed at enlightenment and reference that provide relevant information to all stakeholders such as McU Echo, the official Quarterly Bulletin; McU Flash, the weekly newsletters; and other special releases, reviews, broadcast/podcast materials, documentaries, press releases, speeches, brochures and other communication materials. The Unit monitors public opinion to identify trends, measures media exposures as well as identifying public concerns and expectations for Management action; and keeping accurate and up-to-date data bank on all milestone events.

The Unit is responsible for Coordinating, along with the University Ceremonies Committee, all arrangements for corporate and official functions such as Graduation/Matriculation ceremonies etc, Inaugural lectures, University lectures, distinguished Guest Lectures, exchange Lecture series, staff parties, tours and receptions for dignitaries as well as welcome/send-off parties etc. The responsibility of the Unit also involves provision of materials for website update from time to time and the Unit plans, coordinates and implements an effective internal and external public relations program designed to keep the public informed of the programs and achievements of the College.
The Unit coordinates protocol procedures and communication; liaises with important dignitaries on visits to the University or arranging outside visits by the University functionaries; and any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Vice-Chancellor.
